Thanks to the parents who joined us for our coffee morning again this week.

News from the Primary Cafeteria

As you might remember, at the end of last year we were encouraging our students to use their water bottle and not to buy plastic- as at the end of each day we have over 500 bottles in bins or scattered across the campus daily!

That's an estimated 2500 plastic bottles a week

That's an estimated 10000+ plastic bottles a month

That's an estimated 90000+ plastic bottles in a school year!!

This is a real problem on campus and in Doha- we need to be doing more.

I was in the cafeteria myself this morning and every child that was refused water across the counter, was asked if they have a water bottle in school- and they all did!

Therefore, today Students can no longer purchase water or juice. A small supply of bottles will be stored for emergencies or when a student is sick.

This is a big step that many schools are planning to implement this year- we are proud to say that we are a Globally Aware Campus working towards a better future for all of our students.


Social Media and Mental Health

Cambridge International Education have published an article detailing the consequences of long term internet exposure which can include;

  • sleep deprivation
  • psychological distress
  • cyber-bullying

"Social media is here to stay. Its multiple platforms can bring social, educational and psychological benefits to young people, provided that the risks of psychological distress are minimised. Developing young people’s digital resilience is a step in the right direction..."

There has been a rise in students accessing and repeating language and behaviours that are inappropriate for their age groups.

  • Do you monitor your child online?
  • Are you aware of the content they are accessing on YouTube?
  • Do you know what time your child is online until at night?

Making good passwords, be kind and stop cyberbullying

Students in Years 2 and above, this week played a game called Interland, it is made by Google to help students Be Internet Awesome. It deals with what makes good passwords, how to be kind and stop cyberbullying, what information we should share and what should be private, and about what is real or fake on the internet. It is free, does not require a download, and doesn't need a username or password. Here is the link you can share or send home https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en/interland

No hat, no play.

As temperatures stay high we encourage students to bring a hat for morning break times.

As per our heat policy we are spending breaks inside when the temperature rises above the Ministry of Health's recommended temperatures.

Welcome, we are the Primary Administrative team at EMS.

Our Primary School consists of KG 1 & 2 class and Year 1 - 6 classes.

Ms Joneen and Ms Julia welcome you to Lower Primary in Block D and Block E with KG1, KG2, Year 1 and Year 2.

Ms Angela and Mr Lewis welcome you to Upper Primary in Block D and Block F with Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Ms Liz supports our teachers and parents with teaching and learning.

Our teachers are highly qualified and very experienced both internationally and in the Middle East region. We are impressed by their knowledge, commitment to student learning, dedication and enthusiasm.

In the Primary school one of our main objectives is to develop within each student a genuine love of learning. We want each student to feel that ‘buzz” of excitement when they learn something new, whether it be in academics, sports or the arts. Successful adults are those who love to learn and who know how to push themselves forward into unknown areas. We want our students to develop this lifelong skill.

Secondly, we work very hard to ensure that every student develops the core curricular skills of reading, writing, math and science. These are foundational areas for future learning and we will support every child to reach their own potential.

Another objective for us is to ensure that our school functions as an effective, inclusive, internationally minded community; one where everyone feels safe, secure and where each individual knows how to be a successful member.

​Working alongside parents is very important to everyone at EMS. We encourage you to join in with the school events, visit us often and talk and share with us about your child. Your feedback is always welcome and helps us to improve our school. If we don't know there is a problem we cannot try to fix it.

The year promises, once again, to be a great one at EMS!
