Week of September 24, 2017 Notices

Dear Parents,

Thank you for attending our Parent Evening. I hope you found the session relevant and informative.

We have had another successful week, where the students continued to learn about classroom rituals and procedure. They settled well and seemed quite happy.

They were engaged in a number of hands on activities that aid the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These include moulding, cutting, lacing, and building.

In preparation for writing students were also exposed to lines through games that require them to follow the lines by walking on them.

They learned songs and rhymes in order to aid language development. They also participated in read aloud activities which also aim to develop language, vocabulary and comprehension.

Through songs and games students were introduced to the months of the year, the days of the week, and counting.

Students were introduced to a number of songs and games that helped them to feel welcome and comfortable in the classroom, while helping them to acquire more knowledge.

They discussed feelings and what they can do to help others to feel welcome and happy. They talked about how to be polite and some kind words that they should use (e.g., please, thank you).

This week I will continue to work on fine and gross motor skills. Students will be exposed to different kinds of lines (e.g. zig-zag, straight, wavy, dotted). On Thursday we will use cooked spaghetti to form different lines. I would like to ask you for a small pack of spaghetti.

They will talk about why they are special and try to make a self portrait. I will continue storytelling, games, and singing. I will also continue to review, assess, and observe students to see which skills they display.

Upcoming event

We will celebrate Independent Learner Day on Thursday September 28. Students may dress up to show that they are Independent Learners.

We will continue to engage students in several hands-on activities so as to further develop their fine motor skills. Students have been learning to create self-portraits in different ways. They have identified ways in which they are alike and different. This week they will talk more about their family. We have been counting by rote and I have been assessing students in different areas of Mathematics. Students will begin to talk about how they can form numbers.
