Year 3 - 1
Ms. Amy Smith
Welcome to Year 3 - 1
My name is Ms. Amy Smith and I am the teacher for Year 3 - 1. This is my first year at EMS but I've been living and teaching in Doha for the past 5 years.
I just know this year is going to be wonderful and filled with amazing learning experiences and exciting adventures. Let the learning begin!
Some strategies we have been learning and using to solve multiplication and division problems in Math.
Dress up Day Tomorrow 31 Jan. 2019
To celebrate Qatar's win in the football match last night, we will be having a dress up day tomorrow. The children can come to school dressed in the Qatar colors. (Please note that tomorrow is still a regular school day so students should still bring their bags and please DO NOT send food.)
BMI Assessments Tomorrow
Just a reminder that the Year 3-1 class have their BMI assessments tomorrow.
The Primary school will be having international week activities from January 20th until January 24th 2019. Our class will be learning about Botswana and its culture, people, food...etc.
On Thursday January 24th, students are asked to dress in their own national costume, or any other international dress. Students are asked to share a traditional food dish from their country or any other country of your choice. Please note no cupcakes, donuts, chips or popcorn are allowed only traditional dishes from a country of your choice. There is no need for the school bag this day, only their lunch box and water.
We appreciate your cooperation and your support to help make this unit informative and fun!
Any questions, please contact me
Qatar Day Celebrations
Please be reminded that on Thursday we will be celebrating the up and coming Qatar National Day. There will be activities and assemblies throughout the day for the students. They are allowed to dress in traditional wear or any clothing that shows support for Qatar. The students may also bring food to school if they would like to, however, please do not send huge amounts of junk food and sweets, I've asked them to try and bring traditional food instead. Thank you for your support and I know the children are very excited for Thursday's celebrations.
3 Way Conferences
Please make sure that you have booked a time slot for the 3 Way Conferences this week. There are open places for Thursday. Please use the booking system that was sent to you from the school via email.
The 3 Way Conferences are an important step in communication between parent, child and teacher. Students have a chance to show off what they have learned and done in class, and to set goals to focus towards in the coming terms.
Year 3-1 Assembly
On Wednesday, 21 November, Year 3-1 will be part of putting on an assembly for some of the classes in school. The students have chosen a song that they would like to sing for the assembly about reading and how it helps us to feel better. The lyrics are up here on the sight for them to practice but the song is also on Razkids. We'll be practicing in class to make sure we are properly prepared. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch the assemble, it will be held from 12:50 till 13:40 in the small cafeteria.
Field Trip - 11 November 2018
Year 3 are going on a trip!
Please make sure to sign the permission form on the letter sent yesterday and send it back to school by next week.

1. Arabic books:
- Activity book: should stay at home every day (the teacher can ask the student to bring it to school if needed).
- Student book: should stay in classroom from (Sunday- Tuesday) then the student can take it to home and bring it back at Sunday.
2. Islamic Studies:
- Activity Book: should stay at home.
- Student book: should stay in classroom and the student can take to home if needed.
3. QH book: stay at school all the time. A digital copy is going to be added to the Primary Google Site.
Message to Parents about Healthy Snacks
At English Modern School we work hard to ensure that students’ minds and bodies are ready for learning each day and eating healthy at school can positively affect children’s behavior in the classroom. Students must be prepared and energized in order to be ready for success in the classroom.
School meals (lunches and snacks) should contain vegetables, fruit, and healthy natural juice drinks. Not confectionery (chocolates, sweets, or sugary snacks). As a school, it is part of our responsibility to help children learn how to eat healthily. Please make certain that your child is coming to school with fruits for snack and a healthy balanced lunch for the second break. By helping them start healthy habits early in life, we can help reduce our children's health risks and increase their chances for longer, more productive lives.

Please make sure to check the Year 3 Google Site on a daily or weekly basis for any information about what we are working on, activities in the school and for practice activities for English, Math and Science.
We have library every Wednesday so please don't forget to return library books on Wednesdays so that we can exchange them for new books. Thank you!
